The Love of a Hectic Holiday Season

Every year from October through December, I am much more busy than the rest of the year. Long ago, when school had started back up, I was busy reacclimating myself to the rigors of a schedule, homework, and extra-curricular activities (hello, fellow band kids!). As I got older, the end of the year became a time when I was busy at my retail job, where the Christmas rush was in full swing.

Have you ever gone shopping early on Black Friday? And did you see dozens of frazzled employees trying to keep up with a swarm of (usually grumpy) customers? I used to be one of those unfortunate employees. Yep, there I was behind a cash register at 4am, or running to “the back” to make sure a sale item was actually out of stock. Whew. I don’t miss that at all!

Thankfully now my busy season is full of crochet. Of course I have to say that I prefer this to anything that retail management had to throw at me!

Whether I’m whipping up Holiday themed goodies, gifts for my family, or gifts for YOUR family – I love the range of projects I complete around the holidays. My favorite this year was the Indoor Snowball Kit, which was a big hit over at my Etsy shop.

Is this your busiest time of year, too? How to you spend your holiday season? What’s your favorite holiday crochet project?

Drop a comment and let me know!

The Last Market of the Summer

Today was the last day for our local Farmer’s Market, and business was slow. I’m of two minds when it comes to closing out the season: on one hand, I’ll have my weekends back to myself again; on the other, I’ll miss meeting all the wonderful vendors, selling my handmade goods, and enjoying good music and food.

Despite missing out on all of that, I can now get back to my list of custom commissions and creating digital patterns for all of you! I won’t have to spend late nights working frantically to refill stock that sold out over the weekend. Imagine that!

Plus, with the holiday season right around the corner, I now have time to put together gift sets, stocking stuffers, and cold weather wear. So I guess you could say it’s a good thing that the market has come to a close for the year. I have so much I need to get started on already!
